On November 1, 2014, members of the Texas Region Choir Boy LEMC presented a check to El Paso Police Officer Mike Garcia to assist him with any financial burden he may incur due to on-duty injuries he suffered when he was shot on October 20, 2014.

Police say that 30-year-old Frank Aparicio is responsible for shooting at Officer Garcia, who is a 2-year veteran of the force, along the 8100 block of N. Loop just before 9 p.m. Monday night.

EPPD Officers were later called out to the 12000 block of Sal Rasura before 5 a.m. Tuesday morning to reports of a woman with no signs of life. They have identified her as 61-year-old Cecilia Diaz.

Later Tuesday morning, around 9:55 a.m., officers from the Mission Valley Regional Command Center responded to an unresponsive party behind a business located at 9411 Alameda. When officers arrived, they found Aparicio dead at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators say they believe Aparicio is responsible for the murder of Diaz and the attempted capital murder of Officer Mike Garcia. A spokesperson with EPPD says that Garcia has undergone multiple surgeries after being shot several times, but is listed in stable condition.
